What is clinical hypnosis?

Hypnosis is a therapeutic procedure that can be implemented as part of an individual therapy treatment plan.

Being in hypnosis can be described as a state of “absorption,” meaning relaxed and focused attention that can help you to be more open to helpful suggestions related to your specific concern.

Through hypnosis, you can more easily develop skills to manage difficult thoughts, emotions, or behaviours and to make changes on a deeper level than might be achieved through talk therapy.

Clinical hypnosis can be used in the treatment of many concerns including IBS and other functional gut disorders, chronic pain and health conditions, anxiety, depression, body image, stress, and insomnia.

What does hypnosis involve?

During a hypnosis session, your therapist will guide you into a state of focused attention in which your body and mind can achieve a greater level of relaxation and comfort, while remaining fully in control of your own experience.

While in hypnosis, your therapist may use visualizations, metaphors, and other techniques to introduce new suggestions and possibilities that are relevant to managing your concern.

These ideas will be consolidated during the hypnosis process, enabling you to more easily enact the positive changes that you have agreed upon with your therapist.
