What you need to know about Eosinophilic Esophagitis
Today we will be discussing all things Eosinophilic Esophagitis. I know. You’re saying… Eo-what? It’s a rare condition – however its occurrence is increasing. In fact, here in my own…
Eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE) symptoms can be managed with proper diet. Our dietitians can help both adult & pediatric patients with EoE.
Chronic reflux symptoms are uncomfortable. Food getting stuck, or impacted in your esophagus is scary.

Food sensitivities not only affect your health, but the impact on your relationship with food, your quality of life, and your ability to enjoy social situations. The fact that you have a chronic condition can be a lot to adjust to.
At Ignite, we take a complete look at your health and wellness, working with other interdisciplinary team members as needed.
Not much research exists in the proper nutrition management of adult eosinophilic esophagitis. However, through our practice we have found a variety of strategies to complement medication management:
Use the power of nutrition to manage symptoms of EoE.
The gut-brain connection - learn what it is, and how it can impact your EoE symptoms
Non-pharmacological & prescription.
Keeping those gut bacteria healthy & happy.
Our counselling starts with a 1 hour comprehensive assessment starting with a detailed history, diving deep into understanding your symptoms and how you’re currently managing with eosinophilic esophagitis.
Our goal is to understand how your condition impacts your life, so we can build a personalized plan.
From there, we will create a road-map of your care, both personalized and practical to help you learn to take care of your health from a place of intuition, empowerment and knowledge, build healthy habits, and fuel your body positively. We’re with you every step of the way.
EoE is often managed with the ‘6 Food Elimination Diet’ (also referred to as the 8 Food elimination diet). In discussion with you and your gastroenterologist, we will determine which diet is best to start with, followed by reintroduction of priority allergens to ensure you’re able to liberalize your diet as much as possible.
Often times with EoE, we see stress play a role in symptom perception. We’re here to support you and your gut-brain axis with strategies to improve these symptoms.
When we’ve hit our targets and understand how your symptoms are triggered we can put a plan in place to feel good long term. We want you to live the healthiest life you ACTUALLY enjoy, with as much food freedom as possible! We focus on nutrition and lifestyle strategies so you have control over your symptoms long term.
While the 6-food elimination diet is successful in approximately 70-80% of patients, it is important to note that if you fall into the other 20-30%, other allergens may be causing your reaction. If that’s the case, we will work with your gastroenterologist to discuss next steps, medication management, and other potential triggers outside of the 6-food elimination diet.
