Nutrition Management of Inflammatory Bowel Disease
At Ignite Nutrition we specialize not only in Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), but we also work with clients with Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) and other gut disorders. If you’re wondering…
Digestive symptoms in Crohn’s or colitis can happen during flare ups or remission. Our dietitians can help with both - through all stages of life.
Gut symptoms can persist during remission, and get worse during flare ups, making it feel like you don’t have any control over your symptoms.
Feeling confident in your nutrition and lifestyle can make living with IBD a little bit easier.
Crohn’s and Colitis is SO individual and is often a very dynamic disease. We work with you to develop a personalized approach to get your symptoms managed, and reduce the risk of flare ups. Some things we will often focus on in inflammatory bowel disease include:
At Ignite, we have created a unique system for managing all digestive disorders. It encompasses the latest science around gut health and YOUR digestive disorder including:
Use the power of nutrition to manage symptoms and improve digestive health.
The gut-brain connection - learn what it is, and how you can improve it.
Non-pharmacological & prescription - we will work with your physician on this.
Keeping those gut bacteria healthy & happy.
Our counselling starts with a 1 hour comprehensive assessment starting with a detailed history, diving deep into understanding your symptoms and how you’re currently managing your inflammatory bowel disease. Our goal is to understand your IBD journey, so we can put a plan in place to get you feeling better.
From there, we will create a road-map of your care, both personalized and practical to help you learn to take care of your health from a place of intuition, empowerment and knowledge, build healthy habits, and fuel your body positively. We’re with you every step of the way.
Managing IBD can often be about more than just food – and varies during active flare up versus remission. We focus on making meaningful changes to help achieve your nutrition and health goals – no matter what is happening with your IBD.
We typically implement strategies that:
If your IBD is in remission but you are still experiencing symptoms, we often look to how IBS overlaps with IBD.
Many times, patients with overlapping IBS benefit from the low FODMAP diet. This is a type of diet that removes certain types of carbohydrates that ferment or pull water into the bowel, often worsening episodes of urgency and diarrhea. To ensure good symptom management, we will work with your physician or gastroenterologist to get access to further testing or medication as required.
Living with IBD can be a roller coaster. We want to help you put a plan in place to feel good long term. This may mean having a plan for remission versus flare ups, what to do when you experience pain, bloating, or changes in bowel habits, or working on other lifestyle interventions. At the end of the day, we want you to feel empowered to use your new nutrition knowledge to live your healthiest life!
End the overwhelm with nutrition in Crohn’s & colitis. Get started with nutrition counselling today!
