Nutrition for Celiac Disease
Walk into any grocery store, pharmacy, or even gas station and you are sure to see gluten-free messaging on the products within. The boom in gluten-free eating has emerged from…
Newly diagnosed or long term celiac? Has your child just been diagnosed? We can help you confidently follow a gluten free diet and help you manage any gut symptoms you have.
A sense of relief comes when you FINALLY have answers for your or your childs digestive symptoms, followed by a wave of overwhelm – now I have to learn to live gluten free?
Living gluten free is a big life change – from label reading, to eating out, to finding a balance of how to feed both yourself and your family. A strict gluten free diet is currently the ONLY treatment for celiac disease and can often feel very overwhelming.
Our dietitians are specialized in digestive health and regularly work with celiacs. We take a holistic look at how we can help you implement the gluten free diet as simply as possible, focusing on getting you back to your best health.
We’re here to help make the gluten free diet easier.
At Ignite, we work with our adult and pediatric celiac patients holistically:
Based on your symptoms and lifestyle we will create a personalized approach to help you implement the gluten free diet with ease.
In our comprehensive initial assessment, we take a detailed history, diving deep into understanding your symptoms (if you have them – not all newly diagnosed celiacs do!), lifestyle, and current diet. We review everything from label reading, to eating out, to managing gluten in your household. Our goal is to understand how we can easily implement the gluten free diet in your life.
We will also take a close look to ensure your new diet will correct any micronutrient deficiencies, as those with celiac disease may need to pay more attention to certain nutrients when starting on the gluten free diet. We want you to step into your best health possible by choosing gluten free foods that nourish you and make you feel good.
From there, we will create a road-map of your care, both personalized and practical to help you learn to take care of your health from a place of intuition, empowerment and knowledge, build healthy habits, and fuel your body positively. We’re with you every step of the way.
After the first month we meet again to focus on where the challenges are. Maybe the gluten free diet is going awesome, but you aren’t feeling any better. Or maybe you are really nervous to eat out with friends for fear of cross contamination. Or maybe, there are challenges in the household making it hard for you to implement a gluten free life. Whatever the challenge is – we’re here to help. Our first follow up is all about support, building on your current knowledge and breaking down any barriers you have to living gluten free.
Many times people perceive the gluten free diet as a ‘healthy diet’. With so many processed, gluten free foods on the market, it can be hard to get all the nutrients your body needs. We will work with you to ensure your diet is balanced and nourishing for you and your gut microbiota, long term.
Occasionally, our patients struggle with symptoms more than 6 months after going gluten free, despite having normal endoscopies and blood work. We often see an overlap between irritable bowel syndrome and celiac disease. If you’re struggling with symptoms of pain, bloating, and changes in bowel habits not related to accidental gluten exposure, working with our digestive health dietitians can help get to the bottom of things and find your triggers. As needed, we will work with your physician or gastroenterologist to get access to further testing or medication as required.
