I would indulge – and then, in a true ‘I’m off the tracks’ kind of situation, I would say, screw it – I messed up my ‘perfect eating’ I may as well jump off the deep end. Cake? I’ll take two slices. Ice cream? Sure, why not. I would wake up the next day wracked with guilt.

Eating is supposed to make you feel good, not AWFUL.

This type of disordered eating is SO common, it’s practically normal. Rarely do I meet someone nowadays who has a positive relationship with food. I hear “oh I’m not allowed to eat that”, “that doesn’t fit into my diet”, “that’s BAD for you”. Well yes, if all I ate was chocolate cake, that would be bad for me. If all I ate were carrots, that TOO would be bad for me. I would become deficient in B12, fat-soluble vitamins, and would turn a toxic shade of orange.
