I am SO excited to have had the opportunity to try FODMAPPED for you‘s AMAZING products. Time and time again, my clients find the biggest struggle with staying low FODMAP is sauces, and condiments. People get tired of ‘bland’ food -not that low FODMAP has to be bland, per-say – but the sheer amount of foods you have to remove often make it seem like you have very few options.

FODMAPPED for you, alongside FODMAP Friendly kindly sent me the whole array of their products to try out, so that I could share my thoughts with you. I don’t know about you, but sometimes speciality products can be a bit underwhelming. This was NOT the case with FODMAPPED. They achieved AMAZING flavour with no onion, no garlic, and below the upper limit of other FODMAP’s! (See, it IS possible!)

Why are low FODMAP Products Important?

Guys. The low FODMAP diet is HARD. Knowing, with confidence, that what your eating is low FODMAP is tricky. The amount of overwhelm that comes with implementing the low FODMAP diet is enough to trigger IBS symptoms!

These products are so important because they give IBS sufferers flexibility and ease in their diet. It helps remove the feeling that you have to prepare everything from scratch. I really believe reducing barriers to good nutrition is KEY in being confident and being able to stick to a low FODMAP diet. These products give simple solutions for when you’re busy, or when you’re not feeling great with your symptoms, but just aren’t sure what you’re eating that may be triggering symptoms.

My Review of FODMAPPED Products

Oh my goodness. Where do I start? Guys – you know me. I cook quick. If dinner isn’t on the table in 30 minutes, chances are it’s a Saturday and I’m making something elaborate. What I LOVE about the FODMAPPED products is, they’re pantry staples. Chicken broth, pasta sauce, curry – things I usually can’t live with out. Which is what makes these products have SUCH a big impact on a low FODMAPPER’s quality of life!

What I loved:

  • So far, I’ve tried the Roasted Pumpkin Soup, the Green Curry (my favourite.. seriously, stock my shelves with it now!), the Sweet Chili simmer sauce, and the Red Wine and Herb Tomato Pasta Sauce. All have been absolutely to die for. I love that they come with recipes, however – you can totally do your own thing too!
  • There was nothing I had that I didn’t like. And I’d like to think of myself as having a discerning palate.
  • The convenience was amazing – dinner on the table in 15-30 minutes.

The Con’s:

  • The products aren’t yet available in YYC. Rumour has it, they’re coming soon to Loblaw’s, but for now, online ordering is the only way to get them.
  • When you order online, the cost is high. Frankly, for IBS sufferers, many would pay to have the convenience – but yes, right now the products are going to cost you. Follow me on social media to stay in the loop with Canadian access to these products! I really and truly believe they will be available to us SHORTLY!

If you want to purchase them online, I recommend Amazon or if you’re in the states, US. Low FODMAP has them! The reality is – if you’re shipping to Canada, you’re paying double.

 How I use FODMAPPED Products

During the low FODMAP elimination phase

When you first start on the low FODMAP diet, chances are, you’ll feel overwhelmed. I have VERY specific and practical tools to help my clients with elimination success – however, having some simple options, especially if you’re not confident in the kitchen, is a huge help. Additionally, label reading at the grocery store after your first FODMAP teach can be intimidating! By looking for products, like FODMAPPED that are FODMAP Friendly Certified can help to remove some of the time and stress involved with label reading. By having these products on hand, it gives you some great low FODMAP options to get you started on your low FODMAP journey.

 During the low FODMAP re-introduction phase

If there’s a time to be adherent with the low FODMAP diet, it’s during the re-introduction phase. During elimination, I always say it isn’t all or nothing. You’re learning the diet, learning to make and eat food that is low FODMAP, and just beginning to understand the restrictions. However, during the re-introduction phase, you’re feeling good, you have a good understanding of the diet, AND you’re trying to tease out what it is that is impacting your gut.

If you’re not sticking to low FODMAP, how do you know if it was the food you were testing causing symptoms, versus something you accidentally had exposure to? The reality is, you won’t. In fact, I’d assume poor adherence to the low FODMAP diet during the re-introduction phase leads to unnecessary restriction, and fear that you’re intolerant to more foods than you actually are.

What I LOVE about FODMAPPED products, when I played around with them, is they really gave me confidence to re-introduce mushrooms in a meal. It let me test a higher FODMAP food with confidence and in a way that was delicious. Plus because there are two servings, in a packet, it would allow me to test the same meal again, and add in a larger portion of the high FODMAP food easily.

Long term symptom control of IBS

Chances are, there are going to be some FODMAP foods that you don’t tolerate in certain doses. FODMAPPED products allow you to gain control of your FODMAP intake easily. I could see it being helpful for times where you planned to eat moderate FODMAP, especially if you’re eating out a lot, or the holidays influence your intake. Plus – I can’t get over how much I LOVE the red wine and Italian herb low FODMAP tomato sauce. Seriously – it’s my favourite tomato sauce of ALL TIME.
